A Vintage Spiderman Comic Book recently sold on eBay for $24,600. The comic, which recorded Spiderman’s early (1960’s) arrival as a Comic Book Hero, had caught the eye of collectors and curiosity seekers alike.
The opening price started at “one penny” on February 8th 2009. Ten days later, it had received 61 bids from the 10 Collectors who participated in the bidding war. Over 2,000 auction visitors had checked-in to take a closer look.
According to James Massey, publisher of WhatSellsBest.com, a website providing free tracking and photos of top selling eBay items; (Including the Spiderman Comic) “In spite of our current economy, it appears some comics still have high demand. In January, a first edition Wonder Woman sold for $23,000, and almost everyone’s heard about the Superman sale.”
The Superman sale referred to, was a 1938 Superman comic. The first (comic book) to introduce Superman as a Super Hero. It recently made international news by collecting $317,200 in an online auction.
Massey added; “Unfortunately some owners of rare items don’t hear a news story. They might sell something for pennies on the dollar in a garage sale, or even toss it in the trash. It’s too bad, because today it’s fairly easy to get a general sense of the market values of most items. Usually in just a few minutes using free online sites.”
